HAVEN'S FLAME, my first novel, was released one year ago today.
Man, time flies!
In the past twelve months, I've launched into this world of writing romance headfirst. Following HAVEN'S FLAME, there was the second book in the Cricket Bend series--EMMA'S BLAZE, and then I embarked on MAIDENS & MONSTERS with CHRISTINE, MINA, and LUCY, attended the 2016 RT Convention in Las Vegas and the Rust City Book Con in Michigan, and I had stories in collections from LoveSlave, Insatiable, Coming Together, House of Erotica, and Torquere, and two short (and connected) stories published by NineStar Press.
The next six months look to be equally packed, with the scheduled releases of CALLIE'S EMBERS (the third Cricket Bend book that's been with my publisher since May), the two final volumes of the MAIDENS & MONSTERS SERIES, ESME and ELIZABETH, and a story in the World Weaver Press COVALENT BONDS anthology. In May 2017, I'll be returning to the RT convention, this time as an attending author.
But it's been so much fun. I can't even tell you how many great people I've met, books I've read, and things I've learned.
If you want a good representation of the year, there's this....
This pile of handwritten pages and printed drafts had piled up under my writing desk for over a year. I cleaned it out last night and purged a lot of things. So much of it is Cricket Bend related -- No matter how many books/stories I write, Haven, Matthew, Hank (HANK!) Callie, and the Cricket Bend cast will always hold a special place in my heart. They were the final version of a story that'd been in my head since around 1996, spun off from a character I came up with in order to write fanfiction for a long-cancelled show. They were an experiment in playing with the western tropes I love so much. I wrote HAVEN in coffee shops and cafes, here and there, driven by nothing but love for the characters and their story. While I was going through these papers, I found way early drafts where things turned out differently. (Did you know I originally intended Hank to win? That Braxton was originally going to be the murderer? What was I thinking?)
For real--So much of my heart is in Haven and Matthew and Hank...
I'm so excited for everyone to read CALLIE'S EMBERS in February. One of the things I hear most is that people love Callie, and it's her chance to get a love story.
So Happy Birthday Haven. You're the best. :)
