My heart belongs to Chicago. Having lived here for nearly eleven years now, I love the city despite it's problems and believe it to be a remarkable place with so much potential to become better than it is. It's an imperfect city. Everyone knows we have a crazy amount of violence and corruption and our school system is a disaster - but still, I see the beauty here.
I especially see it on days like today, when I stumble upon something I didn't know was there. My son and I found the woods today, right off the freeway, and took a long walk and got a little lost and found a river and he pretended to fish and we built a house from sticks - and it was perfect.
I'm in the middle of NaNoWriMo, and juggling my day-to-day and my writing life. Things are a little nuts. Yet, today, in the middle of Chicago, I was able to take a walk in the woods.
Well played, Windy City.
